In recent years, the countries in Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and Africa have achieved remarkable progress in malaria control, prevention, and elimination. However, there are still many challenges in various respects. To eliminate malaria in both the high-burden and low-burden, an effective surveillance strategy is of critical importance as it would act as an early-warning tool to monitor the risk and predict the onward transmission potential, and accordingly guide a more targeted malaria response.
This workshop is aiming at reviewing the current progress and challenges in malaria control, prevention, and elimination in GMS and Africa, sharing updated information, and discuss and develop action plans to reach the goal of malaria elimination. The HKBU-NIPD team, in name of Joint Research Laboratory for Intelligent Disease Surveillance and Control, will share their experience in developing malaria active surveillance strategies and deploying implementation programme in China-Myanmar boarder areas and pilot provinces in Cambodia. In this targeted workshop, we will discuss and plan how the developed and validated AI-enabled solutions and software can be implemented to address the challenges and facilitate the active surveillance implementation programme in GMS and African countries.
